Finding the strength to move forward: the story of a girl from Chuguev, Marina Kolii

Surely every resident of Chuguev remembers this girl. On the first day of the full-scale Russian invasion, Marina Koliy's life, like each of us, was divided into "before" and "after". On February 24, 2022, when Russian missiles hit Chuguev, the girl was only 14 years old. As a result of the shelling, Marina received serious injuries - her face was the most damaged. There were long months of treatment, hospitals, surgeries, and a difficult path to recovery ahead.

But even after the darkest days of her life, Marina was able to find the strength to move forward.

Today she is a charming, smiling, sincere and very motivated girl who has not only returned to an active life, but also started building her own future. The youth center "Campus" played an important role in this, where Marina found true friends, support and faith in her own abilities.

It was here that she met her peers, joined various educational programs and courses, discovered new areas of development for herself, and gradually realized: she wanted to not just dream, but to acquire a profession that would bring joy and help her become independent.

One of the important steps was Maryna's participation in a self-employment course as part of the "Power for Girls" project, which is implemented by the NGO "Ukrainian Professional Development" with the support of UNICEF.

The participants of the program underwent coaching sessions, learned the basics of accounting, running a sole proprietorship, and SMM promotion to develop their own business. And after completing the main stage, each girl could choose a narrowly specialized direction for further training. Marina chose sewing without hesitation. She says that she always liked to create something with her own hands, and now she had the opportunity to turn her hobby into a life's work. An individual course was organized for the girl, a mentor was found, and help was provided with the necessary materials for work.

Today, Marina is studying with an experienced seamstress, mastering professional skills and is already making plans for the future - after completing the courses, she wants to enter a vocational lyceum and improve her seamstress skills.

Marina's story is not only about war, pain, and trials. It is about the strength of a very young person who, having experienced terrible events in her still quite young life, did not lose the ability to dream, learn, and move forward. It is also about how support, caring people, and faith in a child can help her believe in herself and her future again.
