The trilateral partnership of the Chuguiv community, the city of Nordhorn (Germany) and the city of Coowarden (Netherlands) has been awarded the status of «Ambassadors of Bridges of Trust». Among the 55 partnerships that applied for the competition, only six received such recognition. The Chuguiv partnership was among them.
The status was awarded based on the results of the communities' joint work. During the cooperation, children from the Chuguiv community had the opportunity to relax in Nordhorn and Coowarden twice — in 2024 and 2025. The partners organized trips with interesting meetings, new impressions, and care. For children growing up in conditions of constant air alarms, this became a valuable opportunity to be safe, regain strength, and feel calm.
An important event was the solidarity concert in support of Chuguev, held in Nordhorn in 2024. It was attended by the President of the Federal Republic of Germany. The initiative united people around helping the community and drew attention to the challenges faced by the people of Chuguev. Thanks to the funds raised, the community received vehicles for the emergency repair team, as well as battery-powered tools and equipment. Today, they are used in daily work, including directly at the sites of hits during the elimination of the consequences of shelling. The equipment helps workers get to damaged facilities, transport necessary equipment and perform emergency work, including in the absence of electricity.
This year, Nordhorn also donated a vehicle to the Chuguiv community for civil defense needs, further contributing to strengthening the community's ability to respond to emergencies and protect its residents.
The initiative to participate in the competition belonged to the partners from Nordhorn and Coowarden. The Chuguiv side supported it. The status received increases the international visibility of the Chuguiv community, helps to present the experience and needs to a wider range of European municipalities, international organizations and donors. This creates additional opportunities for participation in international competitions and programs, finding new partners and preparing joint projects. Recognition of already implemented cooperation strengthens trust in the community and promotes the development of new contacts.
The Chuguiv community would like to thank the mayors of Nordhorn and Coevorden, Thomas Berling and Renze Bergsma, the municipal teams and all residents of the partner cities for their support. Special thanks to the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) and the Cities in One World (SKEW) service for facilitating the development of the partnership. The travel expenses of the delegation from Chuguiv to Brussels and accommodation during the visit were covered by the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR).
The award received is a joint achievement of the three communities and additional motivation for further cooperation.
